Alex Perry

Like most authors, Alex started her writing career by stealing sheets of handwriting paper from her first-grade teacher’s classroom. Her triangle-nosed stick people dashed any hopes she had at becoming an illustrator, but she kept the dream of writing alive.

She grew up in east Texas, Germany, and Massachusetts and graduated summa cum laude from Baylor with degrees in English Literature and German. She taught sixth-graders English and reading in Houston where she fell back in love with middle-grade books. After moving to Arkansas, she finally decided to pursue a career as an author. She lives in Arkansas with her husband, daughter, and two dogs.

Pighearted (Little Brown Books for Young Readers) is her debut novel.

“A heartwarming (and unsettling) reminder to never stop fighting for those you love.”―Kirkus Reviews

“Debut author Perry, exploring the ethics of animal experimentation, offers two compelling first-person perspectives, alternating between a dying boy and an anthropomorphic pig and providing a sweet, if slightly farfetched, resolution.”―Publishers Weekly
