Lisa Bullard

Growing up, Lisa’s career ambitions wavered between occupations such as spy, detective, and mad scientist, all of which, it turns out, are critical facets of the writing life. Her first novel, Turn Left at the Cow (Houghton Mifflin Harcourt), a mystery for young readers, draws on the quirkiness of the small Minnesota towns where she grew up swimming when the lakes weren’t frozen, and ice fishing when they were.

Lisa is also the author of many picture books and nonfiction titles for younger readers, including You Can Write a Story and Trick-or-Treat on Milton Street. Her books have been honored with an International Reading Association/Children’s Book Council “Children’s Choice Award,” a National Parenting Publications “Children’s Resources Silver Award,” an honor listing for the “Storytelling World Award,” two “Teacher’s Choice Awards,” and a listing on Science Books & Films’ “Best Books” list. Lisa is proud to have earned the title “the cool aunt” and now lives in Minneapolis.

Reviews

Turn Left at the Cow

"Trav’s voice is believable, Bullard’s Minnesota setting full of convincing detail, and the boy’s hesitant romantic efforts add a pleasant embellishment. A promising fiction debut." Kirkus Reviews
